Cool Aussie car...

On December 3rd 2004, at a parking space at the '12 Apostels' along the Great Ocean Road - Victoria - Australia, we ran into this little beauty...
The Great Ocean Road is by the way a veeerrryy nice road to do on a motorcycle! Like my brother in law says:
"I don't wanna pickle, I just wanna ride my motorcickle" !!

Cool Debby...

The guy on the left is Ed, a 'weldingwonder' or is it 'metalmagician'... The guy on the right is Sean, the 'Master', he was the owner of Bones Motorcycles in my old hometown.
Here they are checing the spark pluggs on 'Debby', Ed's bike before the road wearthy test to get a licence plate. Doing the test runs with a borrowed licence plate on the back... Almost completely homemade.
He welded the frame himself (they didn't believe him at the RDW because it was TO beautiful done... only after showing the drawing and pictures he got his numbers...) and made loads of stainless steel part on this bike. From the coilbracket to a chainguard, fenderstruths etc... Headlight is from an old Citroen 2CV, rear fender is my old fender... donating wherever I can ha ha ha...

Cool bells...

Ok, about 4 years ago my wife went for a family visit in teh US. I asked her to take back some forward controls (I orderd earlier) and an Easyriders T is saw years before. Also I asked her to bring me a 'gremlin-bell' for me and a friend of ours who was customising his FXR. Later when she came home she gave me this bell, along with that in the bag was a piece of paper, saying:

"Have you ever wished you could get rid of those nasty road surprises that can turn your ride in the wind into a trip where everything goes wrong?
As you may already know, certain days seem cursed by nagging road gremlins/demons who fog (or is it fuck) up your mirrors, draw own your battery, drop your bike, play with your gauges and many other problems.
Some riders already protect their bikes with the powers of such bells. Since road demons cannot exist in the presence of harmony, you can defeat them by trying this small but potent bell on your front forks.
As your bell rings it forces these evil spirits to abandon your bike, leaving you in peace to arrive safely while riding in the wind.
Since these bell's magical powers are increased when given to another, you can ensure safer traveling for your friends also."

So I ran into this bell again this week... on the attic, I still have to hang it on the bike along with the forward controls.

Cool season opener...

In a couple of weeks we have our Dutch Season opener with the annual Rogues Chopper Show at Easter. Really hope this year it won't be so cold and won't be snowing, like last year (above pic is from '06).

Gold mine attic...

I was lookin' on our attic for an old David Mann centerfold I took earlier from an Easyriders issue. Couldn't find it, a lot of moving boxes still standing there... Then my eye fell on a stack of old biker mags (Freeways, Bigtwins and so on)...
Jees, a couple from 1987 and 1989 full of cool bikes... Also I found a 2001, 30 year Easyriders, issue with an overview of bikes featured in the past... Oow woo woo, my little gold mine. That will keep me busy for quite some time ha ha ha...

Cannonville...

The next morning waiking up, opening up the tent; this was our view... just beautiful. (Waiting for the indians to come running down the hill and mountains on their horses...) After breaky we set off towards Escalante National Park and Boulder... Minding he tarsnakes we had one of the best rides... ever... that day. First we past a little village (stupid me, no picas...) with on the right hand side a soccerfiled full of old cars... Going further we went silent from all the beauty we saw.

At Escalante we were harpinnong down one and riding up an other and riding on top of the back of the mountain, both sides valleys with... what can I say... just beautiful. Stopped at a areal view stopping point and bought some stuff from the local indians which sell stuff (arrowheads, dreamcatchers etc.) from the back of their cars. We had a drink in Boulder and we headed back to Cannonville.

On our way back we rode into a group of cows in the middle of the road so we had to take it easy. After a very good day we made our diner (hearing the wildlife around us) and enjoyed a good night sleep. Next day we would head back towards Salt Lake City with one or two stops.

(More cool pics from our 2001 US tour to follow...)

Lamb-chops and Steak...

With the family we went to the neighbourhood info-farm to see the new born lambs. There I ran into a guy, Mike, who I know since I was 12. He also rides a Harley a WLC, two years ago he also bought a Panhead, a Hydra glide is what he told me.

We walked along and in the next door stable I felt some eyes piercing my back. Two girls checking-out my butt... Quickly I took out my cam and snapt them 'cause my wife just wouldn't believe me if I told her. Here they are...

I was walking around with water coming from my mouth; all those future lamb-chops and steaks...
A vew years ago I took a picture of my old Sporty and Mike's WLC. Here it is.

Zion National Park...

So, from Cedar City we took the highway South to Zion National Park. Very nice also with the waterfalls. From there we rode past Bryce National Park to Cannonville where we put up our tent/camp. The next day we rode back to Bryce...

Here is my wife, standing on the look-out for indians... Actually this is at Bryce National Park, she thought it was a good spot to oversee the canyon... She could not see what I did, later I showed her the picture and she said she didn't realize she was that close to the edge.

Later that evening, back on the campsite, we met some BMW riders and during cooking they told us to watch out for the tarsnakes... I didn't know what kind of snake that was and they laughed and told us that it was the strips of tar they repair the road with... Ha ha ha, nice one! Even now when I see these strips here in The Netherlands, in my head I say: "Beware of the tarsnakes...!"

So far in 1969...

What happend so far in 1969...
Januari 1969 - Governement introduced Sales Tax... uncool thing!!

(Seems like we pay taxes on everything, it starts when you work; salary tax minimum of 35%... And then you start spending it... tax on everything you buy, eat, drink etc. Now who are the thiefs, hey?)

Cedar City

During the day the temp was about 30 degrees Celsius... Late in the afternoon we set up our tent on the KOA campsite in Cedar City and the next day we went up the mountains up to Cedar Breaks in the snow (!!). There we had a sneak pre-view of what we could expect at Bryce National Park... After that we rode to Navaho Lake and later we came down the mountain back to Cedar City. Very nice ride by the way! Next day we continued our trip south towards St. George and from there towards Zion and Bryce national Parks.

Packed and ready to go!

(More to come...!)

Salt Lake City...

After the Chicago - SLC flight we aarived at our family, next day side-seeing SLC and after an other day we picked up our rented Fatboy or a week of touring through Utah.
First day we went to Antilope Island and the next day we set off over the Interstate for National Parks and other cool stuff to experience.

Our first stop for the night was Cedar City...

Hell of a time...

Indeed, indeed, we had a hell of a time... Our 2001 US tour. We had a flight from Amsterdam to Chicago and there we had a stop-over for 2 or three days. So we rented a car and drove to Milwaukee... We did some sideseeing on Saturday and on Sunday morning we went and looked for The Building and the spot where shed once stood.
We were walking around the Harley-Davidsons main building when we came to talk to a security guard. After small talk and telling our story, "...yeah we're from Amsterdam bla bla bla..." he said: ... "Would you like to take a look inside...?" Uuuuuhhhh.... HELL YEAH !!
So he opend up the main building for us and showed us the 1903 Harley that was on display in the lobby... Us lucky bastards!
Next day we did a tour in the engine plant in Milwaukee and the tourists tour through Chicago and almost missed our flight to Salt Lake City where my brother in law was living at that time. More about the SLC episode later...

Antilope Island...

Here is a cool pic I took when the mrs was riding the rented Fatboy on Antilope Island (near Salt Lake City, Utah). One of the places we visited on our 2001 US tour. Like the flying long blond hair around the camera.

Me on the back with video camera in rear view mirror...

Some chrome plated diner along the highway in surroundings of Salt Lake...
